I was checking out getting a Dramiel, they look like fun, are damn fast but oh boy are they expensive… so I decided to do a little comparison with the Republic Fleet Firetail as they have matching slot layouts and see how they differ. The two very similar non-blingy fits are below:

The Dramiel fit comes in at a Jita value of approx 49 Million ISK versus the Republic Fleet Firetail’s Jita value of approx 14.5 Million ISK. You could likely bling the Shield Extender and MWD on the Firetail and still come in under the cost of the Dram which might even give you room to fit 200’s on her.
I’m leaning towards the Firetail as they are very cheap in comparison and for the same price as a Dramiel I could get a Svipul.

It all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. A Dramiel is ideal for dual-prop situations and for taking on larger classes of ships safely. A firetail is meant more to take on its own class, and tends to be better web/scram fit.

I have always been a huge fan of the Dramiel and its still one of my favorite ships in EVE though it’s not half as good as it used to be in comparison with other frigs. My go-to fit for the Dram has been slightly different than yours.

Speed is 5018 m/s with MWD and 1847 m/s with AB. I often use a zor’s implant and quafe to give it a bit of an edge. With that you get 2K with AB and 5496 m/s with mwd. EHP at 4,7K, dps 176 with my skills. But you are absolutely correct that its pricey compared to a lot of other ships. The svipul is better at the same price tag(or even cheaper).
