You just never know what you’re going to find when you jump into W-Space…

I was out exploring the other day and had scanned down a few wormholes to check out. The first one I jumped into was J213932 a C1 in the A821-A Region. After my initial D-Scan check I saved my exit location and then rolled the MWD/Cloak Trick just in case someone was ‘watching’ the hole I came in.

J213932 was a pretty small system all but one planet was within D-Scan range of my entrance and there was absolutely nothing showing on scan so I warped over to one of the moons of the far planet for a little recon. As I reached the end of my warp to the moon I got some D-Scan results, there was a POS in the area and a few ships. I narrowed down my scans and found the POS which had all but one of the ships within it’s forcefield, the unaccounted for ship was a Minmatar Shuttle. I kept up with the D-Scanning and managed to track it down near the Customs Office of the planet so warped to 100km of the POCO and there it was, just 140km away – and empty, it was just the shuttle, no pilot?

It seemed odd and I was more than a little suspicious so took my time, stayed cloaked and moved myself to within striking range. Once within range I chatted with a few of the mates for a bit trying to ease the trepidation I was a feeling as I was sure it was a trap – my mind had it playing out with me uncloaking, targeting, and then shooting the poor defenseless shuttle only to in return get owned by the half dozen cloaked pilots that were just waiting for someone like me to show up – the fellas suggested the “Banzai!” approach and I went for it.

Uncloaked, targeted and then unleashed my torpedoes on PI Boss’s Minmatar Shuttle which exploded in a fiery ball of loveliness and there was no trap – it was just a lonely, adrift, un-piloted shuttle containing 1 unit of Tritanium and a Planetology Skill Book?

After that little bit of fun I settled down and scanned all the Signatures in J213932, managed to find a few Relic/Data sites and scored a 3-Run Shadow Warp Disruption Battery BPC!

Gotta love the unknowns and surprises of W-Space exploration!!!

Spent my EVE time yesterday hunting.

I started the session out in “Veiðimaðr”, scanned down and jumped into a Class 3 Wormhole. Spent some time cloaked up wandering around seeing if there was any activity, no joy, then scanned down and identified all the Cosmic Signatures in the System. Marked a few other Wormholes and found one Central Serpentis Survey Site. I decided to camp out for a bit so made a perch about 45km off all the hackable cans and waited… and waited… and waited…

I was in the C3 for just over an hour, I passed the time by browsing with the IGB and would hit D-Scan every so often to see if there were any Probes in system. Eventually I got bored so tore back home, re-shipped into my Cheetah then went back in and hacked the site. Will have to try that hunting tactic another time.

After that uneventful hunt I thought I’d try my first go with the 20 frigate plan so activated “Banahǫgg Spá I” and went for a long roam through some Low-Sec Systems – again no joy.

I was passing through Hek on the way back to my Low-Sec staging home so thought I’d see if the icebelt in Nakugard was getting any activity so re-shipped again into “Naglfar – RAGE™” and headed that way. There were a few miners there, none in any really soft targets but there were a couple of Retrievers working the ice. I set up a little bit below them so I was within range of my launchers and started the waiting game again. D-Scan was showing a Thrasher and a Catalyst in system so I didn’t think it would be too long before someone got the Ganking itch and I was correct. It was maybe a ten minute wait before Mr.Kryz Keedra arrived at the icebelt in his Catalyst and started approaching Josie Peppers’ Retriever. After he fired and got his Criminal flag I de-cloaked, locked him up, hit him with both ‘Hypnos’ Ion Field ECM I’s to disrupt his targeting and then assigned all my weapons – his Cat went down quickly and there was no miner losses. He logged quickly after this engagement, I don’t think he was expecting anything like that!

Had a few good exploration finds over the weekend…

Scanned down and jumped into a Class 2 Wormhole from the home system. I always get a little rush jumping into the unknown of W-Space, you just never know what you’re going to find and this one was untouched. When I’m hunting/exploring in W-Space I make it a point to at least identify all the Cosmic Signatures in the System I’m working and this C-2 had a ton! There had to have been at least twenty Signatures to scan down and I can’t remember what they all were but I did pinpoint ten hackable exploration sites, six Relic and four Data.

I had jumped in flying the Hunting Hound hoping I might find something to shoot but no joy – it was a small System and all I could see on the D-Scan were some Control Towers, there was not one ship in system. The first thing I do anytime I jump into a Wormhole is bookmark my exit and after scanning down all the Sigs and bookmarking all the hackable sites I warped back to it, jumped out, re-shipped into my Cheetah and headed back in.

I managed to hack all but two of the cans (two Data site cans) and ended up with a little over $175 million ISK in the hold and found a  3-run Dark Blood Large Beam Laser Battery BPC – not one of the epic BPC’s but it’s the first Faction BPC I’ve found and it got me pretty excited!

I also stumbled upon my first few Drone Data Sites and scored a number of ‘Augmented’ & ‘Integrated’ Drone BPC’s.

Vándr Nauðsyn

I’ve been joining in on a number of Fleet Ops lately and most of them have been geared towards SOV-Warfare and/or POS Defense and while I enjoy helping out and being a member of the Fleet I must admit that the actual Ops are usually pretty boring… orbit and shoot the big structure. Between Territorial Claim Units, Sovereignty Blockade Units, Infrastructure Hubs and Conquerable Stations/Outposts there is a crap ton of Hitpoints to grind down over the course of a few days \o/

The actual mechanics of Sovereignty are rather simple; the entity which possesses an online Territorial Claim Unit in a system has Sovereignty over that system but understanding the nuances of SOV-Warfare are another thing all together – there are a number of good resources to look at for this info:

I did get into something a little different on our last Op and acted as a Scout in an adjacent System providing the Fleet intel on incoming Neutral Pilots, which was both a little boring and exiting in short spurts – I did Scout a Fleet of ships coming in belonging to The Camel Empire and was able to get that intel to our FC who then got our Fleet to safety. One bonus of being a Scout is that it gave me some time to learn more about the different Ship types in EVE, never a bad thing.

In other news, we’ve been Wardec’ed again… so I’m back to avoiding High-Sec and the SOE mission grind is off. Instead I’ve been concentrating pretty heavily on some exploration and jumping into anything I think I can handle, whether that be a Relic Site, Data Site, DED Complex or Wormhole, which I’ve taken to jumping into any that I find just to poke around. I found my first C6 last night and being the curious fella I am jumped in and started scanning down all the Cosmic Signatures and found four of these – Unsecured Core Emergence – those look particularly nasty!

One thing I’ve noticed during my exploration roams is that Relic/Data sites in Drone space are very rare. Had another ‘first’ last night scanning down an Abandoned Research Complex DG003, got a little excited thinking I might find a Drone BPC but no joy, did find some Rogue Drone Components. Not super exciting but I scooped them up and added them to the expanding hoard of exploration loot I’ve got stashed away, sure they’ll come in handy some day.

I was doing my blog/reddit rounds the other morning and ran across a post by Von Keigai over at Deep in EVE about his exploits hunting in Wspace and it has inspired me to give it a go

Von Keigai Wspace hunts in a Manticore with a couple of different fits – Kalam is primarily a Minmatar pilot so I’ll be giving this a go in a Hound, my lower skill fit is below:

[Hound, Wormhole Hunter]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Co-Processor II

Alumel-Wired Sensor Augmentation, Scan Resolution Script
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Core Probe Launcher I, Sisters Core Scanner Probe
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Torpedo Launcher, Mjolnir Torpedo
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Torpedo Launcher, Mjolnir Torpedo
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Torpedo Launcher, Mjolnir Torpedo

Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I
Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I

Hound - Hound WH Bomber

Just like Von Keigai my tactic will be to carry a mobile depot and have the following in cargo to re-fit to if I find some mining Ventures:
– an extra J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
– and 3 X Light Missile Launchers, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile

I’m stoked to get out on my first Wspace hunt and win or lose or draw I’ll let you know how it goes…
