Veiðr – J113619

Found a C-3 in Skarkon this afternoon so jumped in with “Veiðimaðr” and took a look around. Found a couple of C-3 connections and one Relic Site. Thought this would be a good opportunity to try setting up a perch, camp the site out for a bit and see if any one came on by.

I had a good spot…

Perch

Had two visitors to the system during my hunt and one of them scanned down and came to the Relic Site in an Imicus. I was patient and waited until he had locked up the can and started his hack then uncloaked, targeted, hit him with the Warp Distruptor, Target Painter and let loose the torpedoes. I got the jump on him and hit him with two decent salvos before he really started taking off on me and the third salvo hit him good due to his Microwarpdrive. I got him into about 50% structure for sure but then he got range on me dropped the Distruptor and I lost him.

Lessons have been learned. Next time I’m camping a Relic or Data site I can expect Frigates – get closer, prepare ahead of time and use a Warp Scrambler!

Spent last night hanging with some mates helping the Police respond to criminal activity in Hek and it was a busy night for CONCORD. We had scads of fun joining in on CONCORD’s destruction of some High-Sec parasites.

The CODE. bunch don’t seem to get our motives they think we’re trying to save everyone but that’s not the case – we don’t particularly care who they kill, those parasites are content for us – but when it happens we sure do enjoy the Anti-Gank. I did manage to help CONCORD destroy a few criminals last night; Catalyst, Catalyst and a Moa but I’m not sure if we saved any miners?

Now while CONCORD does not punish pilots with a Suspect Flag they also do not interfere with pilots who do punish those with a Suspect Flag and poor Jinn Khaleesi was out looting wrecks in Hek last night and got our attention a few times… Vexor, Capsule, Probe, Capsule.

I had a fun night with the mates!

Spent my EVE time yesterday hunting.

I started the session out in “Veiðimaðr”, scanned down and jumped into a Class 3 Wormhole. Spent some time cloaked up wandering around seeing if there was any activity, no joy, then scanned down and identified all the Cosmic Signatures in the System. Marked a few other Wormholes and found one Central Serpentis Survey Site. I decided to camp out for a bit so made a perch about 45km off all the hackable cans and waited… and waited… and waited…

I was in the C3 for just over an hour, I passed the time by browsing with the IGB and would hit D-Scan every so often to see if there were any Probes in system. Eventually I got bored so tore back home, re-shipped into my Cheetah then went back in and hacked the site. Will have to try that hunting tactic another time.

After that uneventful hunt I thought I’d try my first go with the 20 frigate plan so activated “Banahǫgg Spá I” and went for a long roam through some Low-Sec Systems – again no joy.

I was passing through Hek on the way back to my Low-Sec staging home so thought I’d see if the icebelt in Nakugard was getting any activity so re-shipped again into “Naglfar – RAGE™” and headed that way. There were a few miners there, none in any really soft targets but there were a couple of Retrievers working the ice. I set up a little bit below them so I was within range of my launchers and started the waiting game again. D-Scan was showing a Thrasher and a Catalyst in system so I didn’t think it would be too long before someone got the Ganking itch and I was correct. It was maybe a ten minute wait before Mr.Kryz Keedra arrived at the icebelt in his Catalyst and started approaching Josie Peppers’ Retriever. After he fired and got his Criminal flag I de-cloaked, locked him up, hit him with both ‘Hypnos’ Ion Field ECM I’s to disrupt his targeting and then assigned all my weapons – his Cat went down quickly and there was no miner losses. He logged quickly after this engagement, I don’t think he was expecting anything like that!

I was out and about the other night when an EVE mate let me know there was a Fleet of Outsourced Logistics Inc. pilots hitting the belts in Hek and Nakugard ganking miners so as I just happened to be passing through at the time I thought I’d re-ship quickly and try to help out CONCORD a little bit.

I docked up at the Hek VIII – Moon 12 – Boundless Creation Factory and jumped into a Hound. That same mate passed along a Hound fit specifically made for this purpose, I call her “Naglfar – RAGE™”.

My mate was mining the icebelt in Nakugard and saw the Outsourced Logistics Inc. Scout pop up in local so I undocked and burned my way there quickly and once in System I cloaked up and warped close to the icebelt. There was a number of miners there, mostly in Skiffs, so I manuevered around and positioned my ship about 30km below them all and set the trap.

It didn’t take long, their Fleet showed up on D-Scan first and then one by one they arrived at the belt as they all warped to their Scout, uncloaking him in the process. They ended up pretty much right on top of my mate which put them all well within range of my weapons – I waited until they fired the first shot and got their Criminal flag then de-cloaked, started locking them all up and spread my weapons amongst them.

There were no miner casualties in this engagement but the Outsourced Logistics Inc. Fleet lost all their ships and I managed to help CONCORD on four of those kills; Cormorant, Cormorant, Thrasher, and a Catalyst.

There is great joy to be had in helping defend High-Sec against those parasites!

Vándr Nauðsyn

I’ve been joining in on a number of Fleet Ops lately and most of them have been geared towards SOV-Warfare and/or POS Defense and while I enjoy helping out and being a member of the Fleet I must admit that the actual Ops are usually pretty boring… orbit and shoot the big structure. Between Territorial Claim Units, Sovereignty Blockade Units, Infrastructure Hubs and Conquerable Stations/Outposts there is a crap ton of Hitpoints to grind down over the course of a few days \o/

The actual mechanics of Sovereignty are rather simple; the entity which possesses an online Territorial Claim Unit in a system has Sovereignty over that system but understanding the nuances of SOV-Warfare are another thing all together – there are a number of good resources to look at for this info:

I did get into something a little different on our last Op and acted as a Scout in an adjacent System providing the Fleet intel on incoming Neutral Pilots, which was both a little boring and exiting in short spurts – I did Scout a Fleet of ships coming in belonging to The Camel Empire and was able to get that intel to our FC who then got our Fleet to safety. One bonus of being a Scout is that it gave me some time to learn more about the different Ship types in EVE, never a bad thing.

In other news, we’ve been Wardec’ed again… so I’m back to avoiding High-Sec and the SOE mission grind is off. Instead I’ve been concentrating pretty heavily on some exploration and jumping into anything I think I can handle, whether that be a Relic Site, Data Site, DED Complex or Wormhole, which I’ve taken to jumping into any that I find just to poke around. I found my first C6 last night and being the curious fella I am jumped in and started scanning down all the Cosmic Signatures and found four of these – Unsecured Core Emergence – those look particularly nasty!

One thing I’ve noticed during my exploration roams is that Relic/Data sites in Drone space are very rare. Had another ‘first’ last night scanning down an Abandoned Research Complex DG003, got a little excited thinking I might find a Drone BPC but no joy, did find some Rogue Drone Components. Not super exciting but I scooped them up and added them to the expanding hoard of exploration loot I’ve got stashed away, sure they’ll come in handy some day.

There is lots going on with the Corp/Alliance and our ‘Blue’ friends and sometimes it’s hard to keep up on who’s where , what the goal is and where I would be the most help – sometimes there are multiple Ops being run in different Systems over multiple Comm Channels.

Being one of the lower skilled members of the crew I’m not always sure what I can add to an Operation but I’m always game to jump in and our FC’s are always willing to have me along. One of the Ops I joined in on this weekend was a Null-Sec Outpost Bash and I was able to provide some decent DPS to the Op with my Hound and while it was not particularly exciting we did get into a few scuffles (which I cloaked up for and attempted to get into a strategic spot for a warp in) and I got to Fleet with Mr. Stoseph Stuarts of Stoseph’s Content Creation.

I tried to get in a good exploration roam on Saturday but it was busy out in New Eden, close to 45,000 logged in mid-day on Saturday. I was semi-successful and stumbled upon a system without too much thru traffic that  had 7 Signatures and more than its fair share of Data and Relic sites. Scanned down 4 Relic Sites and 1 Data Site, opened the majority of the cans – I’m getting better at them but those Data Site cans are still pretty tough – pulled out around 150 million ISK of loot in that one system and played some cloaking games with a few of the passers-by before bailing on the exploration roam and heading home.

I scan down the Cosmic Signatures in our home system on a regular basis and will examine the Wormholes and Combat Sites a little more if they look do-able. On a quiet night recently we had a few new Signatures in System so I popped out and scanned them down and found an Angel Creo-Corp Mining DED-Rated (2/10) Complex. After taking a look at the EVElopedia entry for it I re-shipped into my Wolf and dove in – cleared it quickly and got a Gistii B-Type Small Shield Booster out of the Deadspace Control Station in the final room – looking forward to the day that I can get into some of those higher rated Complexes!

Veiðimaðr

I was doing my blog/reddit rounds the other morning and ran across a post by Von Keigai over at Deep in EVE about his exploits hunting in Wspace and it has inspired me to give it a go

Von Keigai Wspace hunts in a Manticore with a couple of different fits – Kalam is primarily a Minmatar pilot so I’ll be giving this a go in a Hound, my lower skill fit is below:

[Hound, Wormhole Hunter]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Co-Processor II

Alumel-Wired Sensor Augmentation, Scan Resolution Script
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Core Probe Launcher I, Sisters Core Scanner Probe
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Torpedo Launcher, Mjolnir Torpedo
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Torpedo Launcher, Mjolnir Torpedo
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Torpedo Launcher, Mjolnir Torpedo

Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I
Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I

Hound - Hound WH Bomber

Just like Von Keigai my tactic will be to carry a mobile depot and have the following in cargo to re-fit to if I find some mining Ventures:
– an extra J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
– and 3 X Light Missile Launchers, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile

I’m stoked to get out on my first Wspace hunt and win or lose or draw I’ll let you know how it goes…
