Frjáls Farmaðr – Caldari

In my messing with EFT I’ve been playing around with a max-skilled Caldari Alpha toon and it looks like they will have the skills to pilot a decently fit Caracal.

You can mess around a lot with the Caracal but this is a pretty standard small gang fit. For bigger fleets you could pull off the point and replace it with a resist and maybe pull the nano and add a third BCS.

In ‘Real Life’ a Quick Reaction Force or QRF is a military unit, generally smaller sized, that have equipment ready to go and are capable of rapid response to developing situations and are able to respond to any type of emergency, typically within ten minutes. In EVE ten minutes is way too long to respond to a neutral in your ratting system or a roaming gang in your AOE.

I was putting some thought into having a ‘throw-away’ QRF ship specifically for Home Fleet/Ratting system defense which I feel would solve some of the slow form-ups you can often see when responding to the solo neutrals or roaming gangs that pass through your home systems. What I came up with is a long ranged RLML Caracal.

Now while she has no point she does have one mid-slot that is dedicated to some sort of Electronic Warfare and for this initial fit I’ve gone with a Remote Sensor Dampener but you could toss in some ECM or even a Tracking Disruptor if you felt like it. Keeping range is key with this boat, with all V’s she’s targeting out to 93+km and can apply damage beyond that range, 103+km, with T1/Faction Missiles, 77+km with Fury and 51+km with Precision. At my less than perfect skills those numbers go down a bit but are still solid, targeting out to 93+km, applying damage at just over 90km with T1/Faction Missiles, 67+km with Fury and 45+km with Precision.  You are not going to hold anything down with her but this is a harassment boat and the key to piloting her would be to keep your target in the 60km to 80km range while applying damage and whatever type of Ewar you’ve got, and watch Capacitor management by pulsing your MWD . I’ve thrown a couple of EC-300 in the Drone Bay and would launch those if anything got too close.

The Caracal is not a particularly prestigious boat but she has some concrete benefits; it is not overly skill intensive to get into, it’s fairly inexpensive (around 30mil for the fit), it’s easy to fly and RLML are quite effective.

Maybe stash a couple of these these at your Safe POS or throw some in your Public Corp Hangar so that they are easy to grab and I bet your crews response time to neutrals will increase effectively.

Venja Nyr Farmaðr

I’ve put some work into a NewBro friendly Cruiser Fleet Doctrine for Force Nomad and have come up with a Caracal that I feel is solidly NewBro friendly.

[Caracal, Piecemaker-Cadet]
Damage Control I
Ballistic Control System I
Ballistic Control System I
Nanofiber Internal Structure I

50MN Microwarpdrive I
Large Shield Extender I
Large Shield Extender I
Warp Disruptor I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field I

Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Warrior I x2

My criteria was to go with a full T1 fitting that way the industrial wing of Force Nomad (I’m assuming there will be one) could be producing everything that is needed to fit these ships and keep the costs down for the NewBros. The T1 Piecemaker above costs less than 20,000,000 ISK.

I’ve worked up a skill plan to get the NewBros into the Piecemaker quickly – the plan for brand new non-Caldari characters would look something like this:

  1. Caldari Frigate I
  2. Caldari Frigate II
  3. Caldari Frigate III
  4. Caldari Destroyer I
  5. Caldari Destroyer II
  6. Caldari Destroyer III
  7. Caldari Cruiser I
  8. Missile Launcher Operation II
  9. Light Missiles I
  10. Mechanics III
  11. Jury Rigging I
  12. Jury Rigging II
  13. Jury Rigging III
  14. Shield Rigging I
  15. Drones II
  16. Drones III
  17. Light Drone Operation I
  18. Shield Upgrades III

It’s 18 total skill levels which will take a brand new toon less than two days to complete. Obviously this is just the basic skills needed to fit and fly the ship – the idea would be to get them into one ASAP and get them used to flying in a Fleet. Then gear their training towards a full T2 version of the Piecemaker Caracal. Ideally Force Nomad would provide the newer pilots the necessary Skill Books to get into the Cadet version of the Piecemaker which for a non-Caldari toon would include:

  • Caldari Frigate costing 40,000 ISK
  • Caldari Destroyer costing 100,000 ISK
  • Caldari Cruiser costing 500,000 ISK
  • Light Missiles costing 20,000 ISK
  • Jury Rigging costing 60,000 ISK
  • Shield Rigging costing 100,000 ISK
  • Light Drone Operation costing 50,000 ISK

870,000 ISK per pilot, a worthwhile investment to get all of the Force Nomad pilots into a cohesive Fleet Doctrine. The T2 version of the Piecemaker Caracal will take a month plus to get into and providing a proper training plan to get the Cadets into it would also be a priority but I’ve not taken a serious look at that yet. The ship itself will look something like this:

[Caracal, Piecemaker Mk.A]
Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

50MN Cold-Gas Enduring Microwarpdrive
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Warp Disruptor II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Warrior II x2

Will continue to put some thoughts into the basic structure and organization of Force Nomad, maybe someday it’ll come into reality in New Eden and provide some direction and content for the NewBros.

Kostr Maðr VII

I’ve come up with a few fits for Jugji to try out on the Level 3 Archangel Security missions, an AC and Arty version of the Rupture and a RLML Caracal. I’ll get a couple of each out to his staging area and then once he has got the required Standing test them out in some missions. Even with some unassigned SP that he had (which I put towards a number of skills – Tactical Shield Manipulation to get him into T2 Shield Tank, Missile Bombardment which allows him to use the Missile Guidance Computer and a number of Drone skills for a little boost in that Skill Tree; Drone Avionics, Drone Durability, Drone Interfacing, Drone Navigation, Drone Sharpshooting and Medium Drone Operation) Jugji’s skills still aren’t that solid, he’s sitting at just under 7mil SP with no immediate plans for him to get anymore training.

T1 Cruisers are not the best choice to run L3 missions and these fits will for sure not be the most efficient L3 mission runners but at Jugji’s skill levels they are the best I can come up with and I’m hopeful that they will be good enough to grind through them… we’ll see…

Góðr Barsmið

Had a solid fun encounter last night – it was a bit later for me and a few of us were just chilling out after some Fleet Op stuff when we see our Intel Channel blink with info on a Nuet travelling through our immediate area. He, Zarvox Toral, showed up in local of our staging system and left fairly quickly but his name popped up again in Intel only a minute or two later in a System down a dead end pipe near us. This is when the RL Brother throws out the idea of going to hunt Zarvox down and when we learn that one of our mates had already undocked to go look for him in the pipe so we scrambled into action.

Three of us erratically undock and start burning down the pipe towards our mate and Zarvox’s last known location. In total we had four pilots, the three of us that undocked late were flying in a Caracal, Hyena, and a Rupture and our mate already headed down the pipe was in a Scythe Fleet Issue.

Our first engagement with Zarvox was a lemming’fest and he wrecked three of us fairly quickly, I lost my Rupture first then our SFI went down and finally our Caracal… he was flying a brawling fit Vexor Navy Issue with a XLASB and a flight of Geckos – it was a BEAST of a ship and those Geckos are truly nasty! It was also during this first engagement that we learned Zarvox was streaming live on Twitch and some of our Alliance mates were watching the fight.

Those of us who lost ships in that first fight burned back to reship and get a little more organized and all due to some expert piloting by our Hyena pilot we managed to catch Zarvox coming into our staging system. We eventually managed to break his XLASB tank and take him down.

Many thanks for the good fights and good fun Zarvox, hopefully we’ll see you around the area again!
