I’ve been doing some theorycrafting with Polarized Weapons lately and for the most part with their huge drawback of dropping all your resistances to 0% they are not worth it… but I think you can make a case for building Polarized Weaponry fitted ships for some pretty specific roles or if you fully embrace the “Don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose” philosophy then maybe a couple just for the kicks.

I fly Naglfar – RAGE™ for a very specific role, she’s a Ganker catching vessel and I starting thinking that the Stealth Bomber is likely one of the more useful ships to fit with Polarized Weaponry so started playing in EFT to see what I could come up with for a Polarized Ganker catcher and here she is.

Warp Disruptor II

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

Polarized Torpedo Launcher, Nova Rage Torpedo
Polarized Torpedo Launcher, Nova Rage Torpedo
250mm Light Artillery Cannon II, Tremor S

Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst II
Small Warhead Rigor Catalyst I

There is a lot of math involved when applying Torpedo damage to the target ship and there are many people out there who can work those numbers out much more efficiently than I. What I can provide are some base EFT numbers to show the difference between the Polarized Launcher vs. the T2 Launcher using the fit above with the same ammo.

Polarized Base

  • 910 dps
  • EHP 1656

T2 Base

  • 731 dps
  • EHP 2360

Missle range with Nova Rage 50.6km
Turret range with Tremor 22+11km

There is a case to be made against using Rage Torpedoes as they have a larger Explosion Radius so may not apply damage to the smaller ships that the Gankers use as effectively as its Faction ammo equivalent but again that is a math problem I’m not going to tackle at this moment.

It’s another specific role but with a few tweaks to the fit the Polarized Hound, or any other Stealth Bomber for that matter, could be made into a pretty burly structure bashing ship!

I’m a few weeks away from Torpedo 5 so I’ll just have to wait to perform any experiments with it.

Was out wandering Low-Sec the other night when I get a notification that a RL mate has logged in, his EVE in game name is Melrick Aubaris. He’s not got that much time to play and is in Hek so I start making my way that direction thinking we may be able to find some trouble to get in to and when I’m about two jumps out Melrick notices that a newer fella, Andrey Dubina, has just gotten a Suspect Flag which gave us 15 minutes to hunt him down and attack without any CONCORD penalty.

As soon as I hit Hek I reshipped into Naglfar – RAGE™ and started hitting the belts, went with the assumption that Andrey was probably looting wrecks, and it paid off – I found him, flying a Talwar, in Hek IX – Asteroid Belt 4.  Unfortunately I had warped in at Ø and got decloaked by an asteroid so he warped off right away but he had been about 200km off the belt so curious I took a look at what was out there and lo and behold there was a can so I warped out to it and took a quick peak inside, it was full of loot. Now this brightens things up, I cloaked up and reposition about 15km above the can and wait. While I’m waiting Melrick has fitted a long point on his Vexor, undocked and gotten himself to a Safe Spot in anticipation of Andrey coming back to get his loot.

We didn’t wait too long… Mr.Dubina warped right back to his can and started orbiting it so I started my approach and once within 5km had Melrick warp to me at Ø. When Melrick came in he decloaked me, got point and unleashed his drones while I hit Andrey’s Talwar with my ECM and started firing missiles at it. The ambush must have shook up the poor fella and/or the ECM worked well because he didn’t even Yellow Box either of us? Andrey’s Talwar went down fast and then we popped his Pod for good measure.

He apparently was not too pleased with us and shortly after our ambush placed bounties on both Melrick and me – we’re now ‘Wanted’ – it was a quick bit of fun to end the night!

Found a C-3 in Skarkon this afternoon so jumped in with “Veiðimaðr” and took a look around. Found a couple of C-3 connections and one Relic Site. Thought this would be a good opportunity to try setting up a perch, camp the site out for a bit and see if any one came on by.

I had a good spot…

Perch

Had two visitors to the system during my hunt and one of them scanned down and came to the Relic Site in an Imicus. I was patient and waited until he had locked up the can and started his hack then uncloaked, targeted, hit him with the Warp Distruptor, Target Painter and let loose the torpedoes. I got the jump on him and hit him with two decent salvos before he really started taking off on me and the third salvo hit him good due to his Microwarpdrive. I got him into about 50% structure for sure but then he got range on me dropped the Distruptor and I lost him.

Lessons have been learned. Next time I’m camping a Relic or Data site I can expect Frigates – get closer, prepare ahead of time and use a Warp Scrambler!

I work a few jobs so some weeks my evening play time is either very limited or non-existent all together. Last night I worked an odd three hour evening shift so had time to get home and log in for a bit.

I didn’t want to stray too far so stuck pretty close to Hek hoping to get in on some CONCORD responses. Towards the end of my online time I was camping one of the belts in Hek where there was a Retriever mining and things were pretty uneventful for the most part so I was getting ready to dock up and log off but then Whiskey Blaze popped up on grid in a Coercer

He had a couple of buddies follow him in, one in a Stabber Fleet Issue and the other in a Catalyst. We were thinking (hoping) that the Cat would go after the Retriever but the Retriever warped off shortly after the three finished their warp-in.

We hung out waiting to see if the Retriever pilot would come back, could have been a bot after all, he didn’t but a Venture did warp-in and even with the two destroyers and cruiser on grid the Venture pilot went right to mining???

Venture’s are not really what we would consider prime gank bait but all four of these fellas looked to be newer to EVE so the results of the engagement are not all that surprising.

So we are left with four ships on grid; the mining Venture, a Coercer, a Catalyst and a Stabber Fleet Issue (I guess that’d be six if you include our two stealth bombers). I’m still fairly new back to EVE but I’ve been spending a fair amount of time camping gank bait and have never seen a Coercer or SFI perform a gank so was totally focused on thinking that the Catalyst would be the aggressor and was perplexed when I saw Whiskey Blaze’s Coercer start approaching and then orbiting the Venture.

He didn’t appear to be in a hurry, spent about a minute orbiting the Venture before he shot and got his Criminal flag. We uncloaked lickety-split, locked him up and popped him before CONCORD even had time to respond.

It was nice to get a little action before having to head to work for the evening.

Spent last night hanging with some mates helping the Police respond to criminal activity in Hek and it was a busy night for CONCORD. We had scads of fun joining in on CONCORD’s destruction of some High-Sec parasites.

The CODE. bunch don’t seem to get our motives they think we’re trying to save everyone but that’s not the case – we don’t particularly care who they kill, those parasites are content for us – but when it happens we sure do enjoy the Anti-Gank. I did manage to help CONCORD destroy a few criminals last night; Catalyst, Catalyst and a Moa but I’m not sure if we saved any miners?

Now while CONCORD does not punish pilots with a Suspect Flag they also do not interfere with pilots who do punish those with a Suspect Flag and poor Jinn Khaleesi was out looting wrecks in Hek last night and got our attention a few times… Vexor, Capsule, Probe, Capsule.

I had a fun night with the mates!

Logn Veiðr

Spent my EVE time yesterday hunting.

I started the session out in “Veiðimaðr”, scanned down and jumped into a Class 3 Wormhole. Spent some time cloaked up wandering around seeing if there was any activity, no joy, then scanned down and identified all the Cosmic Signatures in the System. Marked a few other Wormholes and found one Central Serpentis Survey Site. I decided to camp out for a bit so made a perch about 45km off all the hackable cans and waited… and waited… and waited…

I was in the C3 for just over an hour, I passed the time by browsing with the IGB and would hit D-Scan every so often to see if there were any Probes in system. Eventually I got bored so tore back home, re-shipped into my Cheetah then went back in and hacked the site. Will have to try that hunting tactic another time.

After that uneventful hunt I thought I’d try my first go with the 20 frigate plan so activated “Banahǫgg Spá I” and went for a long roam through some Low-Sec Systems – again no joy.

I was passing through Hek on the way back to my Low-Sec staging home so thought I’d see if the icebelt in Nakugard was getting any activity so re-shipped again into “Naglfar – RAGE™” and headed that way. There were a few miners there, none in any really soft targets but there were a couple of Retrievers working the ice. I set up a little bit below them so I was within range of my launchers and started the waiting game again. D-Scan was showing a Thrasher and a Catalyst in system so I didn’t think it would be too long before someone got the Ganking itch and I was correct. It was maybe a ten minute wait before Mr.Kryz Keedra arrived at the icebelt in his Catalyst and started approaching Josie Peppers’ Retriever. After he fired and got his Criminal flag I de-cloaked, locked him up, hit him with both ‘Hypnos’ Ion Field ECM I’s to disrupt his targeting and then assigned all my weapons – his Cat went down quickly and there was no miner losses. He logged quickly after this engagement, I don’t think he was expecting anything like that!

Góðr Finna

Had a few good exploration finds over the weekend…

Scanned down and jumped into a Class 2 Wormhole from the home system. I always get a little rush jumping into the unknown of W-Space, you just never know what you’re going to find and this one was untouched. When I’m hunting/exploring in W-Space I make it a point to at least identify all the Cosmic Signatures in the System I’m working and this C-2 had a ton! There had to have been at least twenty Signatures to scan down and I can’t remember what they all were but I did pinpoint ten hackable exploration sites, six Relic and four Data.

I had jumped in flying the Hunting Hound hoping I might find something to shoot but no joy – it was a small System and all I could see on the D-Scan were some Control Towers, there was not one ship in system. The first thing I do anytime I jump into a Wormhole is bookmark my exit and after scanning down all the Sigs and bookmarking all the hackable sites I warped back to it, jumped out, re-shipped into my Cheetah and headed back in.

I managed to hack all but two of the cans (two Data site cans) and ended up with a little over $175 million ISK in the hold and found a  3-run Dark Blood Large Beam Laser Battery BPC – not one of the epic BPC’s but it’s the first Faction BPC I’ve found and it got me pretty excited!

I also stumbled upon my first few Drone Data Sites and scored a number of ‘Augmented’ & ‘Integrated’ Drone BPC’s.
