Force Nomad Piecemaker Doctrine

I’m working through ideas for a Fleet Doctrine for Force Nomad based around the idea that it will be fully Alpha Clone friendly.

I’m trying to put it together so that there are a few ships to choose from for each Faction/Race so that any Alpha Clone regardless of their Skill Points can jump into a Fleet right away.

Unfortunately it’s turning out to be easier said than done to have a functional Doctrine that meshes all the available Alpha Clone Faction/Racial Hulls together well. Getting a brand new toon of any Faction/Race into a cheap tackle Frigate is easy but beyond that it gets much harder to have a cohesive Fleet Doctrine that includes the Destroyer and Cruiser hulls for all the Factions.

Here are my initial thoughts for the hulls for each Faction/Race

Amarr:
Crucifier
Arbitrator

Caldari:
Condor
Griffin
Corax
Blackbird
Caracal
Osprey

Gallente:
Atron
Maulus
Tristan
Celestis

Minmatar:
Breacher
Vigil
Slasher
Talwar
Bellicose
Scythe

Newbro & Alpha Clone Friendly ~ [FNMD] Force Nomad wants you!

“Footsloggers and soldiers of fortune, priests, poets, killers and cads — they fight for a future in New Eden, for cash, for a cause, for the thrill of adventure. Culled from the forgotten and unwanted of the four dominant empires, they are trained to be the most elite, and expendable, of fighting forces. Sometimes peacekeepers, sometimes shock troops, Force Nomad is sent into New Eden’s most desperate internal and external conflicts. Legionnaires live rough and they die hard, tough as Mercoxit and loyal to the dirty end.” ~ New Eden’s Legionnaires are here… Force Nomad!

It’s still just a thought but with November fast approaching it could be a fun side project to put together.

I’ve put some work into a NewBro friendly Cruiser Fleet Doctrine for Force Nomad and have come up with a Caracal that I feel is solidly NewBro friendly.

[Caracal, Piecemaker-Cadet]
Damage Control I
Ballistic Control System I
Ballistic Control System I
Nanofiber Internal Structure I

50MN Microwarpdrive I
Large Shield Extender I
Large Shield Extender I
Warp Disruptor I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field I

Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Light Missile

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Warrior I x2

My criteria was to go with a full T1 fitting that way the industrial wing of Force Nomad (I’m assuming there will be one) could be producing everything that is needed to fit these ships and keep the costs down for the NewBros. The T1 Piecemaker above costs less than 20,000,000 ISK.

I’ve worked up a skill plan to get the NewBros into the Piecemaker quickly – the plan for brand new non-Caldari characters would look something like this:

  1. Caldari Frigate I
  2. Caldari Frigate II
  3. Caldari Frigate III
  4. Caldari Destroyer I
  5. Caldari Destroyer II
  6. Caldari Destroyer III
  7. Caldari Cruiser I
  8. Missile Launcher Operation II
  9. Light Missiles I
  10. Mechanics III
  11. Jury Rigging I
  12. Jury Rigging II
  13. Jury Rigging III
  14. Shield Rigging I
  15. Drones II
  16. Drones III
  17. Light Drone Operation I
  18. Shield Upgrades III

It’s 18 total skill levels which will take a brand new toon less than two days to complete. Obviously this is just the basic skills needed to fit and fly the ship – the idea would be to get them into one ASAP and get them used to flying in a Fleet. Then gear their training towards a full T2 version of the Piecemaker Caracal. Ideally Force Nomad would provide the newer pilots the necessary Skill Books to get into the Cadet version of the Piecemaker which for a non-Caldari toon would include:

  • Caldari Frigate costing 40,000 ISK
  • Caldari Destroyer costing 100,000 ISK
  • Caldari Cruiser costing 500,000 ISK
  • Light Missiles costing 20,000 ISK
  • Jury Rigging costing 60,000 ISK
  • Shield Rigging costing 100,000 ISK
  • Light Drone Operation costing 50,000 ISK

870,000 ISK per pilot, a worthwhile investment to get all of the Force Nomad pilots into a cohesive Fleet Doctrine. The T2 version of the Piecemaker Caracal will take a month plus to get into and providing a proper training plan to get the Cadets into it would also be a priority but I’ve not taken a serious look at that yet. The ship itself will look something like this:

[Caracal, Piecemaker Mk.A]
Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

50MN Cold-Gas Enduring Microwarpdrive
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Warp Disruptor II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Warrior II x2

Will continue to put some thoughts into the basic structure and organization of Force Nomad, maybe someday it’ll come into reality in New Eden and provide some direction and content for the NewBros.

Playing around with the idea of Force Nomad being a project to help out new players and took some time to build a ‘Cadet’ ship for each race based around that races starting skills. If you’re familiar with EFT and are interested here are the character files I’m working with, one for each race:

And here are the ships. A brand new toon of the appropriate race can jump right into one of these and join a fleet operation immediately although new characters run into fitting issues pretty quick so you won’t see many/any full weapons racks.

You may have noticed that other than the Caldari hull all the boats are that races Fast Attack Frigate, their T1 Interceptors. The Caldari Fast Attack Frigate is the Condor which is a Light Missile/Rocket boat and a fresh out of the box brand new character has no Light Missile/Rocket skills so I went with the Merlin which is bonused for Small Hybrid Turrets and a new Caldari character can jump right into it without any further training needed.

It’s likely that the new guy will get blown up pretty quick as these are squishy but they are also inexpensive and with just a few pointers and maybe a couple minutes of training that new pilot should be getting shot at and having fun in no time!

I don’t know if I’ll ever use it but at least I’ve got the Corporation started which ‘reserves’ the name. Having a military background I do have some thoughts for structure, etc… which I will jot down so that I have a base of reference.

Force Nomad – New Eden’s Legionnaires Ranks:

  • LR0 – Legion Cadet (under 2.5mil SP)
  • LR1 – Legion Ensign (2.5mil to 5mil SP)
  • LR2 – Legion Lieutenant (5mil to 10mil SP)
  • LR3 – Legion Lieutenant Commander (10mil to 20mil SP)
  • LR4 – Legion Commander (20mil to 30mil SP)
  • LR5 – Legion Commodore (30mil to 40mil SP)
  • LR6 – Legion Admiral (50+mil SP)
  • LR7 – Legion Vice Admiral
  • LR8 – Sergeant Major of the Legion
  • LR9 – Admiral of the Legion

My initial thought is to award ranks based on a combination of a characters total skill points and/or their time in service – in theory it sounds good but I’m sure there would be outliers that will not fit within that framework. The top three ranks would be reserved for the Corporation Leadership.

Force Nomad – New Eden’s Legionnaires Units:

  • 1st Legionnaires Training Wing
  • 3rd Legionnaires Pioneer Wing
  • 1st Legionnaires Engineer Wing
  • 1st Legionnaires Parachute Wing
  • Legionnaires Command Wing
  • Recruiting Group

These seem pretty straight forward, the ‘Recruiting Group’ isn’t a traditional unit, more of a role assignment, it would be a designation given to a member in any of the units.

Force Nomad – New Eden’s Legionnaires Medals/Awards:

  • Order of Merit – awarded for every year of service in the Legion
  • Order of the Star of Yan Jung – awarded for every 1000 kills a Legionnnaire achieves
  • Order of the Black Star of Arkombine – I was thinking this could be awarded when the Legionnaire kills one of every ship class, although with the rarity of some ship classes (Prototype Exploration Ship, Titans, etc…) this could be a little too hard to achieve so I may have to rethink this one?
  • Order of the Legion of Honour – this is the highest honour a Legionnaire can receive, it is awarded for exemplary service

These are more just for fun than anything else but I did put some thought into the criteria for their appointment. I was also thinking that there could be Campaign Medals awarded for individual operations if they were noteworthy.

Fun stuff to put some time in thinking about and drafting up but there is a whole whack of real work that needs to be put in to run a ‘good’ Corporation/Alliance in New Eden and I’ve already got that with our crew. At some point this could maybe turn into a side project to help out some new bros but that would be something to consider way down the road…

Herlið

I’m a comic book lover and one of my all-time favourite comic titles is Alien Legion which is a science-fiction comic-book series featuring a military unit, Force Nomad, think the French Foreign Legion in space. The war going down in New Eden had me thinking about the comic series as it has a very familiar theme to it.

“Footsloggers and soldiers of fortune, priests, poets, killers and cads — they fight for a future Galarchy, for cash, for a cause, for the thrill of adventure. Culled from the forgotten and unwanted of three galaxies, they are trained to be the most elite, and expendable, of fighting forces. Sometimes peacekeepers, sometimes shock troops, the Legion is sent into the Galarchy’s most desperate internal and external conflicts. Legionnaires live rough and they die hard, tough as tungsten and loyal to the dirty end.”

Random thoughts on a slow work day 🙂
