Logn Veiðr

Spent my EVE time yesterday hunting.

I started the session out in “Veiðimaðr”, scanned down and jumped into a Class 3 Wormhole. Spent some time cloaked up wandering around seeing if there was any activity, no joy, then scanned down and identified all the Cosmic Signatures in the System. Marked a few other Wormholes and found one Central Serpentis Survey Site. I decided to camp out for a bit so made a perch about 45km off all the hackable cans and waited… and waited… and waited…

I was in the C3 for just over an hour, I passed the time by browsing with the IGB and would hit D-Scan every so often to see if there were any Probes in system. Eventually I got bored so tore back home, re-shipped into my Cheetah then went back in and hacked the site. Will have to try that hunting tactic another time.

After that uneventful hunt I thought I’d try my first go with the 20 frigate plan so activated “Banahǫgg Spá I” and went for a long roam through some Low-Sec Systems – again no joy.

I was passing through Hek on the way back to my Low-Sec staging home so thought I’d see if the icebelt in Nakugard was getting any activity so re-shipped again into “Naglfar – RAGE™” and headed that way. There were a few miners there, none in any really soft targets but there were a couple of Retrievers working the ice. I set up a little bit below them so I was within range of my launchers and started the waiting game again. D-Scan was showing a Thrasher and a Catalyst in system so I didn’t think it would be too long before someone got the Ganking itch and I was correct. It was maybe a ten minute wait before Mr.Kryz Keedra arrived at the icebelt in his Catalyst and started approaching Josie Peppers’ Retriever. After he fired and got his Criminal flag I de-cloaked, locked him up, hit him with both ‘Hypnos’ Ion Field ECM I’s to disrupt his targeting and then assigned all my weapons – his Cat went down quickly and there was no miner losses. He logged quickly after this engagement, I don’t think he was expecting anything like that!

Got out with our CEO and an Alliance mate the other night for some small Fleet T1 Frigate Fun. Fifth Dimension is our main FC and for the first bit had me running through some approach and overheating drills that will be beneficial with piloting my Interceptor in Fleet engagements. After that he took Blendzen and I out for a little T1 Frigate roam with our expectation being that we’d likely get blown to bits but have some run harassing someone in the process. It didn’t take long and just a few jumps from home we had contact. There were just a few ships on grid at first and we were holding our own but then it turned into a more serious battle and I went down hard but did manage to get some shots in on a kill in the turmoil. I did GTFO in my pod to a nearby planet but warped right on top of a Nemesis who promptly scrammed and popped me.

As serendipity would have it, after I woke back up and had made my way back home, my routine of one last check of the Star Map was showing a little blue Cynosural Field dot only a few jumps away and Cyno’syndrome took hold, I was happy to not end the night on a downer!

I’ve been an avid PC gamer since the days of “Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord” and have played many MMO’s, solo style RPG’s, FPShooters, strategy games, etc… you name it I’ve probably played it.

I have never been a min-maxing game player, I play games to have fun, get some laughs and hangout with friends. I’d build characters that may not have the best skill set or best damaging weapons but they’re fun to play and it’s fun to see how they do in game.

I’m following this same trend with EVE. I’m flying and fitting ships that may not be the best PvP or PvE ship but they are fun to fly. My biggest EVE weakness would be that I don’t have much experience with PvP as of yet so I’m planning on giving the ’20 Frigate Plan’ a go. Found this blurb on one of the EVE Online reddit posts.

Do the 20 frigate plan. Go to lowsec and lose twenty of your favorite frigate or lose frigates until you can kill 4 pilots in a row with the same fit without dying. Write down the following information in the in-game notepad and label it “Engagement Log Date:______”:

  • Overall summary of the fight, range dictated, money lost, possible enemy fit and fit you used.
  • Pod escaped?
  • What worked?
  • What could help improve my survivability in the future?

After every fight, message your enemy and thank them for a good fight. Tell them you want to get better at PvP and ask what you could do to improve. They will often send you ISK and the fit they used.

My plan will be to get at least twenty Rifters together, get them shipped home, build them one at a time, un-dock, take them out into Low and Null-Sec and see how things go. I’ll be naming the Operation and each Rifter “Banahǫgg Spá” which translates into “Death-blow Prophecy”. After some back and forth fitting talks with the brother last night we got it down to four fits that I’ll be playing around with.

Flár Rata II

Got into a myriad of activities the other night. Started out the night spending some time in the Inty Explorer wandering through some Systems in Great Wildlands and Scalding Pass, no epic finds but did scan down a few sites. Got caught up on my PI activities and moved some materials around to keep the PI flow going. Had the Astero delivered and got it on the market and then went about building a new Wolf to replace the one I lost.

After getting the Wolf built I hopped in, plotted a course home and started burning my way there… no matter where I’m at, High-Sec, Low-Sec, Null-Sec or W-Space, I’ve been diligent with practicing my travel techniques – Local Chat window is always open, when I come through a jump gate I’m holding cloak until I’ve taken a look at who and what are in the System. In Low and Null-Sec Systems if I see Neuts I’m working the D-Scanner to see if they’re close and what types of ships they’re in.

On my burn home I got into Offikatlin and saw two Neutrals in system, one was on gate and jumping but the other, Darryn Lowe, was still out there somewhere. The Offikatlin system has no stations or outposts so I held cloak, checked D-Scan at 360° and full range and popped a Prospect. I took a look at the Probe Scanner and saw that two of the Cosmic Anomalies in System were Ore Sites. I lowered the scan angle to 30° and took a look at the closer Ore Site, a Small Gneiss Deposit, and there he was – jumped to zero, hit approach, cycled the MWD once to close the distance, locked my target on the way in, got the Warp Scrambler on him once I was in range, hit the NOS next and then switched on the AutoCannons. I’m guessing he was AFK as it took a bit to get through his shield and he made no actions to get away, once his shield was done he melted pretty quickly.  I took my time to loot the wreck while I waited out my Weapons Timer and then finished my burn home.

Docked up and was getting ready to log for the night but then decided to take a quick look at the Star Map and lo and behold there was a little blue Cynosural Field dot only a few jumps away and Cyno’syndrome took hold!
