EVE Online: Ascension is getting deployed on November 8th and with it New Eden is going to see many changes… Clone States, Engineering Complexes, a Revised New Player Experience, the death of Off-Grid boosts with the introduction of Command Bursts and a Mining Foreman Revolution.

Since the Mining Foreman Revolution Devblog has been published we’ve already seen the result of some speculation with prices of the Orca jumping up 40% and the Rorqual going up 20%. Honestly it’ll likely take a few months for the true effects of all the changes to be seen, realized and acted upon but in the in-between time I’m going to take advantage of all the speculations that I can.

Will have to see how well I can do that   🙂

Clone States are coming and with the introduction of Alpha Clones I’m looking to get in on the action and create another Alt so I sent myself a buddy link and have started a brand new toon on a 21-day Trial. In the Dev Blog they have stated that Alpha Clones will train skills at a reduced rate compared to Omegas so I figured I’d get one going now to get a head start while the field is level and all toons train at the same speed.

There may be some changes to it but I’ve got the current list of Alpha Clone skills and will get my new toon to train as many of those up as possible before the trial ends and then just wait out the rest of the time before November and get the queue going again once Clone States is live. With three toons per account at some point down the line I should have three maxed out Alpha Clone toons, one of each race except Amarr is likely the way I’ll go.

We’ll have to see how they limit Alpha Clone logins but hopefully they will allow just one to be logged in concurrently with any Omega Clone logins. I’m sure folks will find work arounds but hopefully we won’t see any huge abuse issues.

Now that some of the dust has settled after the initial announcement of Clone States and CCP’s follow up Dev Blog it feels like the majority of folk that play EVE are optimistic about what the F2P Alpha Clones will bring to New Eden while being wary about about the ways they could be used to take advantage of game play situations. The two biggest concerns, which I’m totally on-board with, are:

  1. The use of multiple Alpha Clone Alts.
  2. The use of Alpha Clone Alts for High-Sec harassment/Suicide Ganking.

I know I’ll be taking advantage of having an Alpha Clone Alt and will take the advantage as many times as I’m legally allowed. As for the Suicide Ganking there are decent arguments coming from both sides and it looks like, at least for the initial release, CCP is leaning towards allowing it and I can understand their thoughts, they don’t way to limit the game-play available to the F2P crowd, but I’m going to predict that a month or so after Alpha Clones get to New Eden, probably just after they’ve had time to fully skill into the Catalyst, CCP will limit the Alpha Clone Safeties to Yellow while in High-Sec which will disallow their use in Suicide Ganking but still allow them to cause some trouble in High-Sec.

We’ll see how this goes…

I won’t rehash all the specifics here as there are already a ton of folks discussing it:

What I will add to the discussion is that I’m stoked for this! I’m hopeful that we’ll see an influx of new players hit New Eden in November and I’m crossing my fingers with more hopes that we’ll see many of those NewBros stick around for the long haul.

I’ve already been messing around with the proposed Alpha Clone skills in EFT to see what a max skilled Alpha will be able to fly and will post some of those thoughts/fits in the coming days.
