I work a few jobs so some weeks my evening play time is either very limited or non-existent all together. Last night I worked an odd three hour evening shift so had time to get home and log in for a bit.

I didn’t want to stray too far so stuck pretty close to Hek hoping to get in on some CONCORD responses. Towards the end of my online time I was camping one of the belts in Hek where there was a Retriever mining and things were pretty uneventful for the most part so I was getting ready to dock up and log off but then Whiskey Blaze popped up on grid in a Coercer

He had a couple of buddies follow him in, one in a Stabber Fleet Issue and the other in a Catalyst. We were thinking (hoping) that the Cat would go after the Retriever but the Retriever warped off shortly after the three finished their warp-in.

We hung out waiting to see if the Retriever pilot would come back, could have been a bot after all, he didn’t but a Venture did warp-in and even with the two destroyers and cruiser on grid the Venture pilot went right to mining???

Venture’s are not really what we would consider prime gank bait but all four of these fellas looked to be newer to EVE so the results of the engagement are not all that surprising.

So we are left with four ships on grid; the mining Venture, a Coercer, a Catalyst and a Stabber Fleet Issue (I guess that’d be six if you include our two stealth bombers). I’m still fairly new back to EVE but I’ve been spending a fair amount of time camping gank bait and have never seen a Coercer or SFI perform a gank so was totally focused on thinking that the Catalyst would be the aggressor and was perplexed when I saw Whiskey Blaze’s Coercer start approaching and then orbiting the Venture.

He didn’t appear to be in a hurry, spent about a minute orbiting the Venture before he shot and got his Criminal flag. We uncloaked lickety-split, locked him up and popped him before CONCORD even had time to respond.

It was nice to get a little action before having to head to work for the evening.
